Itchy Scalp? How to Reset It Without Scratching
Share
That itch hits, and the first thing you want to do is go in with your nails. I get it. But scratching hard can leave tiny scratches on your scalp, make the itch worse and lead to breakage around your edges.
Here’s how to get relief the right way.
Why your scalp itches
- Build-up: product, oil, sweat and dry shampoo sitting at the roots
- Dryness: a tight, thirsty scalp, especially in winter
- Long time between washes: common with braids and protective styles
Signs it’s build-up: you itch by day three even when your hair looks clean, you see white or waxy bits at the roots, or your products just stop working.
1. Put the nails down
Use the pads of your fingertips, or a scalp massager brush. Press and move in small circles instead of scraping back and forth. You get the same relief without the damage.
2. Reset your scalp
Every 2 to 4 weeks, wash with Scalp Reset Shampoo. The zinc and peppermint formula lifts build-up and leaves your scalp feeling cool and fresh. Leave it on for 3 to 5 minutes, massage, then rinse well.
3. Keep regular wash days
Between resets, wash with Chebe Shampoo on your normal schedule so build-up doesn’t come back. Not sure how often? The free hair quiz in the Krowned app gives you a wash schedule based on your scalp.
4. Soothe dryness
Two to three times a week, put a few drops of Scalp Elixir Reset Oil on your parts and massage it in. This is the oil made for your scalp. Keep the Chebe Hair Oil on your lengths and ends.
5. Wearing braids? Still care for your scalp
Oil your parts with the Scalp Elixir, rinse or cleanse your scalp when you can, and don’t leave styles in longer than 6 to 8 weeks.
When to see a professional
If the itch comes with redness, sores, heavy flaking or patches of hair loss, check in with a dermatologist. Some scalp conditions need more than a good wash day.
